Smile What a wonderful day

Yesterday was a wonderful day. Five retarded adults and their care givers came out to the farm for a day in the country. They fed the goats some animal crackers and they loved on the goats and the goats loved them back. They met our llama and got to touch him and feed him some black oil sunflower seeds. Then they fed the chickens and helped collect eggs. They had a grand time there was much laughter and smiles on every face. I am disabled and the farm is equipped with ramps and hand rails. The farm is set up with four wheel drive utility vehicle and they enjoyed riding with me through the woods and pastures. Seat belts fastened of course. It makes me so happy to be able to do this and we enjoy field trips for the local schools and nursing home visits. When I got out of the hospital three years ago this farm was my wife’s present to me. The goats and critters challenge me and keep me moving. This life style is the best physical and mental therapy ever.

Steve

That is so great. It's nice of you to share what you have with others who might otherwise not be able to experience "the farm". I know you are blessed because of it.

Cool! I'm planning to do that sometime shortly myself. My son is 22 and MR. He stays at home during the day while I'm working. He feeds the goats and keeps them watered for me. He also goes out with his portable CD player and sings to them during the day. He tells me they love it.

Thanks for posting this... what a day brightener! You are so right about a country, close-to-nature lifestyle being the best physical and mental therapy there is!!

My two youngest kids (13 and 9 yo) are developmentally delayed (otherwise known as MR), in addition my son (13) has schizophrenia. Living out here, taking care of the goats and the neighbor's horses, helping with chores and learning to drive the little tractor are the kinds of things that help my kids grow. My daughter (9) may not read very well, and she struggles with even basic addition... but she can tell by looking in a horse's eyes what it's trying to say to her, and it takes no time at all for even a shy or frightened, dog, goat or horse to trust her.

Keep doing what you're doing, Steve... the gift you're giving those "kids" (of all ages) is priceless...

I'm new here. Thats awsome what you did for those folks! You must be a really warmhearted person, and so lucky to have the opportunity to lighten peoples lives who don't get to live on farms like we do!

That is great to hear. I know they sure had a good time because of lots of people that are ither disable or something they do not get to do things like that so that made their day. I bet 100% grand.
