fencing question

hey folks,

i'm about to install some redbrand sheep and goat fence. never installed field fence before. do i just unroll it and nail it up or do i stretch it? if so how to i stretch it? thanks for the help.

It needs to be stretced. When we did ours we took a peice of steel rod weived it in the fencing attached it to chain then pulled it with tractor. Some people use truck. you can also rent a fence stretcher but hey we think cheap.

The only problem with using a vehicle or a tractor to stretch wire, it is very easy to over-stretch the wire, which leads to problems over the entire life of the fence.
If you do use a truck, go slow, and pay attention the the little kinks in the wire that indicate how far to stretch.

If you haven't put up much fence, it would be well worth your while to go to the library to look at some books, or drag a knowledgable friend into the game with you. Here is a fairly decent link detailing how to install woven wire:

Rowdy you are right, when we stretched the fencing with a tractor we had 2 people walking the fence checking and the tractor was moving very slow.
