Pennicillin

I've always wondered...
I've never found a pennicillin that you can give sub-q. On the label the kinds I've ever bought would say "IM only". Does that really mean anything? Is there a certain kind I should get to give sub-q?

Not according to both of my bottles of pennicillin. They both say to administer IM only, which I have always done... But then most people on this forum give it sub-q, so I wondered where I could get stuff labled for sub-q administration, or if I just used the same stuff.

The majority of meds are also not labeled for goat use.

I use Penn Procaine G sub-q when I treat with Penn.

dona the risk hitting a vene if you give it im is very high. the animals will collaps and die before you can say "piep"
contact your vet and ask him for advise. or go to fiasco farm and read about different meds, dosages and how they are administered.

My vet gave me instructions to do an antibiotic SQ, but I did read it on the bottle that it was IM...

I know the risks of hitting a vein, and My vet has always told me to give it IM. So, even though it is labled IM, I CAN give it Sub-q? thats what i've been wondering.

My vet told me to give it IM. It's not that hard if you know what you are doing. I've given myself IM shots before (yeah, it's fun!).

Yes, you can give it SQ - same precautions re hitting a vein. For most medications you have to ignore the lableing when treating goats. Ex: Ivermectin 1% injectable and Cydectin pour on are both given orally.

Thanks!
yeah, I've always wanted to give it sub-q, but didn't know if I could. I don't want to go hitting a vein with pennicillin, and thats why I wondered.

There is a Penicillin called BP-48 that is only subcutaneous. You admnister 2cc for a 2 day coverage (48 hour).

I was told by a vet to inject IM only in the rear of the back leg in the meaty section (thigh) and you will avoid most veins.
