I lost a goat tonight

I was putting the girls up tonight. Cinnamon had looked at me with a really wird expression earlier today. I called everyone and Basil didn't show up. Cinnamon, her big sister, was still acting funny, but her mother only wanted to get into their area to eat. I knew something was wrong immediately because Basil if never far from Libby's side. We started calling her and I found her in the creek dead. She had broken her neck and her leg. It looks like she tried to jump the creek and landed wrong. They jump the creek all the time. It's not very wide. It was just a freak accident. Basil was 2 years old. She would have been bred for the first time this fall.

Her mother doesn't seem the least bit bothered that she's gone , but her sister is definately sad. She didn't even eat all of her grain tonight and seemed very needy for petting and hugs.

Sorry to hear for your loss. Its the freak accidents like this that hurt the most. When you know its coming is bad enough but at least you expect it and not as shocked like when somthing like this occurs.

I'm so sorry for your loss. At least she was doing something that she loved. Playing.
I wonder if the other goats will shy away from the creek or stand and remember her by it. Goats are very intelligent and I believe have strong emotional ties to each other. Very sad.
