It does work!!
A friend was telling me about how she uses a stethoscope to count unborn puppies when her Mini poodle is pregnant. I wondered... Could the same be done with my goats? I bought the 5.00 stethoscope from Jeffers.
I tried when Boston was 3 months pregnant but not since. I did find a faint beat, and assumed it was a baby's heart because I stuck my hand into Boston's armpit and the beat didn't match up. It was faint and hard to hear though.
I figured out it's easier to pull the disk thingy under thier hair and to use your palm because you can hear your finger joints sqeaking, lol. Also, it works best if you are in a closed barn and 3 other goats aren't screaming at you point-blank range for thier feed...
Anywho, Boston is now 4 months and 1.5 weeks pregnant (due July 5th) I tried again today and heard a distinct, loud baby heart! Not to mention quite a bit of kicking, lol. I know it was a baby heart because I followed it twice after it moved. I am now almost sure that Boston has one large baby floatin around in there. I'm gonna keep listening regularly to see if I can pick out a second heartbeat, just in case.
Now if only that baby would scream " I"m a boy/girl!!"
