Ivermectin

what is the milk withdrawal time when you give ivermectin injections to your dairy goats? Our first year we didn't know to do withdrawal and I said "Well, I guess we all got wormed!"

i've heard some people say they don't worry with ivermectin - because they say they use it in some of the third world countries on people anyway..

i'm sure somebody else will post with more concrete info for you..

i've given it to humans in this country, for lungworm infestation. yes, it had us all freaked out when we found out she had it. seems it turns up fairly frequently in poor rural populations.

it's relatively safe, i'd imagine.

i don't know about withdrawal times, try googling the merck vet manual and see if you can find the answer there. seems like if you have to redose in a week for persistent infestations, that would mean it had cleared during that week.

why do you give it by injection? i always heard it worked better to give it orally.

I use injectable liquid because I can dose it more accurately. I have Nigerians and they are of various sizes and ages. Besides, it is so hard to get paste in their mouths! And who wants to arm wrestle a buck's head??

April Rain, we squirt the injectable into their mouths! I know, it sounds weird, but as an injection, it is very pure, and it seems to just slide right down! Forget the paste, what a mess!!

If you're giving injectible as an injection, I hope you're fecaling to make sure it's working?? Because injectibles do not work well on goats, unless they're given orally. We use a 4-day withdrawl for Ivermectin given orally.

When giving Ivermectin orally, how much do you give and if you have a pretty heavy infestation, how soon do you repeat and often should it be given to keep the worms under control?

We never had trouble with worms to the degree we have now and all I can figure is because they're grazing now.

Has anyone had a problem with their herd becoming immune to the Ivermec?

We have to rotate wormers about every 6 months.
