Shouldn't a vet ask if a goat has had his tetanus shot...

...before he rips open his scrotum, yanks out cords and pulls out his D*MN balls?!!!!!!!!!

(This is a thought that occurs to me as I reflect on my day)

Did he give him antitoxin? How about you--have you given him any tetanus? Seems like a good idea to me. Maybe you could ask the vet what, if anything, he has administered. You should be able to pick up antitoxin and vaccine at your local feed suppply store, I would think cheaper than having the vet do it. Most of us take care of that ourselves, I think. I'd see to it.

No - he gave him nothing and asked nothing.

The bucks are up to date on their shots, so I am not worried. Just irritated that a vet would not ask!

I was venting

My vet never asked. I castrate mine myself now, with the knife. To a livestock vet, a goat is livestock, not a pet. They are used to dealing with cattle in these parts. Most cattlemen who castrate their calves do it without tetanus, the ones i know. Many just find the baby callf still wet, cut them and leave them. The losses from tetanus are rare and giving the shots are considered not cost effective and are time consuming. That's just the way it is sometimes.
