Are there any other symptoms? Any bites? is he bloated? Has he been wormed? Feed change? Anything you can think of?

Did he receive cd/tet shots? I've seen goats go down SOOOO fast from enterotoxemia.

this is the 2nd buckling ive lost..my little doe is fat and happy and sassy..actually looks like she swallowed a basketball, lol. I was worried about her til i figured out she does nothing but eat...even talks with her mouth full, i dont know when she finds time to chew cud.
they had no change in diet, just nothing that i can think of..
and i looked up enterotoxemia..he was never a big eater...so no, that wasnt it. theyve been pretty much on forage with a small amount of feed once a day. i weaned them maybe 3 weeks ago.

So sorry. I hope you can narrow down the problem so it doesn't happen again. I beleive strongly that animals know you love them and it brings them peace to die in your arms. Goats are such intelligent animlas and your compassion made his passing easier. Your bucklings life was short, but so much better than a long life of cruelty. Take comfort in that. He lived a good life.

I'm so sorry about your little buck.

Talk to your vet about urinary stones. It may not have anything to do with your guy, but worth learning more about just in case.

We lost one to urinary stones a few years ago. First thing in the morning he lagged behind and stayed in barn and didn't want to go out with the herd. 10 minutes later he was laying down and seemed weak. We took him straight to the vet and he just got colder and weaker on the way. We really loved the little guy and at the time had pretty good jobs so we had the vet try surgery. It looked for a while like he might make it but he died late that night.

It is always so hard when they are young and just showing hints of the interesting goat-people they will become. We really miss our little Donny, and our herd sends thoughts of sympathy for your loss.

Lynda

you say your little doe looks like she swallowed a basket ball. what kind of coccidia treatment are you giving your kids? there can always one die for mysterious reasons but if it is more than one you have to search for the cause.
coccida has not always diarhea. it can come with constipation too.

I'm sorry about your little guy. I hope that you and your husband can find comfort, and that your little girl, and any other goats that you have, or will get in the future, will be just fine. Good luck. BYe.
