Help, help, help...how much Pennicillin for kid???

Same thread as 106 fever...gave .2 mL of 300,000units/mL to 20 day old kid, one dose last night, one this afternoon.
No swelling, umbilicus healed, disbudded 10 days ago, healed, fever down to 104...haven't banded yet...no rattle in the lungs...almost like he holds his breath and then a heavy exhale, and slow respiratory rate...
no other symptoms in herd - yet...
How much pennicillin do you give? How often?

what diet is this kid getting ?
how much does it weight?
did his dam got cd&T shot three weeks prior to kidding?
do you have cocci prevention?
how does the belly feels like? hart, soft squishy?
is this kid dam raised?
any change in housing reacently?
cae status?

we need to find the reason why this kid is off in order to help.
for a high fever you can give banamine. it will also help with any inflamatory.

It also depends on what kind of penicillin I believe. From my general experience, goats usually don't need alot of pen. because it messes with their digestive system so much. I have a little guy who weighs 34 pounds that I gave 1.5 cc of duramycin too, and the vet said to only give it once.

I also would even think about banding or anything until this little guy pulls through this.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

When using penicillin, you have to give it for at LEAST 5 straight days.

(fiasco farm website recommends)
Regular penicillin (Procaine Penicillin G-
300,000 units Procaine Penicillin per ml)

Dose

SQ Injection
1ml per 15 lbs. twice daily - Treat from 5-14 days, never less than 5. It should be used at least 5 days and until all symptoms have disappeared, whichever comes first.
Milk withholding time: 14- 20 days
Notes:
There is a widespread resistance to this drug.
Do not give Oxytetracycline and Penicillin at the same time. When given together, the tetracycline causes a chemical reaction that stops the effectiveness of Penicillin.

Long acting Penicillin (Penicillin Procaine & Penicillin Benzathine combo-
150,00 penicillin units G procaine & 150,000 units penicillin benzathine per ml)

Dose

SQ Injection

1 ml per 25 lbs. once a day -Treat from 5-14 days, never less than 5. It should be used at least 5 days and until all symptoms have disappeared, whichever comes first.
Milk withholding time: 25- 30 days
Notes:
There is widespread resistance to both penicillin procaine and benzathine, and studies have shown that the benzathine (long acting) form of penicillin has too slow an absorption time to reach recommended therapeutic levels.
Do not give Oxytetracycline and Penicillin at the same time. When given together, the tetracycline causes a chemical reaction that stops the effectiveness of Penicillin

Your vet 'might' have the new Oxytetracycline you give only one shot which lasts for over a week.
