Wanted doe in milk NW Indiana

We are looking for a family milk goat in NW Indiana. She would have two ewes to keep her company and we'd take very good care of her. We'd consider adding a second goat if you feel strongly about it before selling to us and if it wouldn't cost too much. We can't afford to spend a lot of money (dh out of work presently!) and don't need show quality or amazing bloodlines. Breed is really not a large factor except as it relates to our other priorities.

Priorities are (in order):

1) Disease free/good health. We have two purebred ewes that we love dearly and wouldn't want to expose them to anything that might compromise their health.

2) Good temperament.

3) Easy keeper.

4) Adequate milk production. Really 3 qts/day would be plenty for us although I'm sure we could find a use for more or get by on less if we had to.

Can anyone help us or point me to someone who can? Thanks so much.

bump.

We're not too picky, only the health factor is really critical to us. An older gal close to retirement would be fine as would a mixed breed. Thanks.

I should probably add that our price range is hopefully under $200. After calculating what we'd no longer have to spend on store cows' milk, rice milk, and yogurt and what feed and other care would cost us that's about what we can spend and still come out even at the end of the year. I wish it was more but the numbers don't lie. Is there much chance of finding one in our range?

Thanks. Will call today. I have a couple other possibilities now too so hopefully we'll have one by the weekend.

If you want to come pick her up, you may have this one for whatever you can afford to pay for her, since I do believe she would be going into a good home. Midnight is a registered nubian whose father is the grandson of Frosty Marvin (a great nubian bloodline). Her mother's bloodline is that of Sir Alginon. She was born here on our farm and is a "contiunous" milker, meaning she has given milk without breeding 2 years in a row. (Just start milking her and she begins making more and more and more milk, usually over 10 lbs a day.) I discovered this one year when I did not get her bred; but had dried her off as I do all my does each late fall. Needed some extra milk for another doe's kid and tried this one's udder. Low and behold it wasn't long before great milk production was occurring that surprised me.

I have a small herd and all are kept healthy because we put the offspring in our deepfreeze for a continuous supply of meat. I am restocking my herd this year in order not to inbreed; thus both does I have left are going to good homes. Midnight was born in 2000 and Frosty in 1998. (Frosty is also from the Marvin line.) Both are friendly and healthy. Midnight gives more milk than Frosty. Frosty adopts any kid needing extra attention. Both produce silver colored offspring.

You can see these does on our homestead at http://motdaugrnds.250free.com

Thanks for the offer - where are you located? Gas prices being what they are driving could exceed the cost of the nicest doe if it's very far.

(Filling the van up has gotten insanely expensive! )

We are in NW IN about 15 miles directly south of the tip of Lake Michigan.
