Question Chlamydia,pink eye in goats

I am a newby to goat raising and I have been asked to board some goats who have been treated for chlamydia. I am not sure I should do this and want some info on the disease please.

I'm a little confused, do you mean conjunctivitis? Chlamydia to my understanding is a STD. Pink eye is conjunctivitis. Big difference in where treatment would go I would reckon.

I did some checking for you, I didn't realize that there is a bacterial strain of chlamidia that produces pink eye. Here's a site that might help you. Learn something new every day huh? http://www.tennesseemeatgoats.com/ar...chlamydia.html

I wouldn't recomend it especially if you have goats or plan on having goats in the future. The same bacteria that causes pink eye can also cause abortions.

One of my goats a few years ago had either chlymidia or toxiplasmosis and aborted and never settled with kids again. $250 for her and $300 to save her. Check your cats Toxiplasmosis is carried by cats) and don't let chlymidia on our property!
My advice, anyway.

Nope. Don't go there. It is highly contagious, and like others are saying, can spread and cause abortions. This is not something that you want on your property.

I'm not a real advocate of boarding other people's animals. When I get a new goat, it stays in quaranteen for a month while I treat it for worms and make sure that there are no other diseases that become apparent, etc. THEN it can go with the rest of my herd if it checks out okay. But when you board someone's animals, yo ucan be spreading things to your own animals simply because you touched theirs and then went to go feed and water yours...various things can be carried on clothing, shoes, in your hair... Touchy situations. If you KNOW this person and KNOW that their animals are clean, that's a different story.

But it sounds like you already know that this is not a clean set of goats...
