Udder bumps--what is this???

Her left udder is the one that had mastitis--it seems cleared up. I milk it out 2x day. The right udder is the kids side. I had occasionally milked it a bit--but not much in a few days. The girls seem to keep it somewhat milked.

It is still soft, but the skin on her udder and back of her teat is scaley/hard w little bumps.

It REALLY bother her if I even touch it--but I don't see her jump around when the girls nurse....

Its not orf/soremouth....I've seen this on my gals when black flies come out but odd that its just one side....I'd milk her out on both sides and bag balm her after milking.....milk the affected side last/balm

I'm pretty sure it is not poison ivy...good thinking, though. I am crazy-bad allergic to that--so I'd be in serious misery if it were! I could eat my words by mornig, though...

I got some bag balm. Is it okay to let the kids nurse w/ that on her?

Blessings,
Christina

It could be staph. Clean the udder with either iodine udder wash or bleach water.

I have a doe that has just got these same kind of bumps. She is a milk goat so she doesn't have babies on her and get's cleaned with bleach water (1 gal water to 1/4 cup bleach) twice a day. Her milk production is the same...

Anybody figure out what it is?

Hmmm. I am really good about keeping both the loafing area and the goat yard raked out, but, it has been wet and rainy lately...

Mine eat poison ivy too and we have caught it from them....I think because the oils were on them...not that they had a rash It is said to make the milk taste bad when they eat it too....
To me it looks like a poison ivy rash just starting but perhaps it is reaction to something else environmental...odd that the kids dont seem to be bothered..is she allowed to pasture somewhere that the kids are not? Maybe she found a stinger nest like red ants?
