what kind of shots to give goats

I just recently got some Lamacha goats. I have a mama and 2 nanny kids. What kind of shots or worming do they need and when? I wormed the 2 kids but not the mama because she is pregnant and due the end of March. I used safeguard wormer to worm them. Do they really need immunized on a certain schedule or just when they get sick? Thank you for any help.

The vaccinations given to goats are C&D and tetanus. Some people give them, some don't I don't vaccinate my goats, but would give tetanus antitoxin if I noticed a puncture or other serious wound on a goat. Kids are given a series of 2 shots 21 days apart. The pregnant doe is vaccinated 6 weeks prior to her due date with a single dose. As for worming, I prefer Ivomec. I give this in two doses, 10-14 days apart. I worm my does when they kid.

you don't vaccinate your kids or pg does? For people that do, after the initial 2 doses for the kids do they need an annual booster? How often should you worm? is the Ivomec injectible or a paste?

Angie after the 2 CT&D shots(given a month apart) you will need to revaccinate yearly.On the wormers I use the Ivomec liquid, but I do not inject it, it is so much easier to just give it to them orally, just use a syringe, minus needle, and shoot it down their mouth. Safeguard is not effective anymore where I live, Ivomac and Cynectin still work very well, and I really prefer the Cynectin. When to worm is really hard to say, I always worm after kidding, but other than that I take it goat by goat, if they need it I worm them, but they are not on a schedule.

I would not go 6 weeks out prior to kidding...I prefer 3-4 weeks. We breed all on a certain date. We also vaccinate 3-4 weeks prior to the first possible kidding date. Any goats that have not kidded within 4 weeks of that date get another dose. It isn't going to hurt the does, and it will help the kids.
My preferred brands are Covexin 8. 3cc sq first dose, 2cc 21 days later for overeating/tetanus. I also give CL vaccine, and pneumonia. I use CL vaccine from goat abcesses. My preference for pneumonia is Super Poly Bac B Somnus. It is 1cc sub q and repeat 21 days later. We think that after the initial innocculation, you will be okay with 1/2 cc boosters. Those too are all given to the does 3-4 weeks prior to kidding. That is what we do and what works for us.
