Mamma goat question

Bianca had twins Monday late morning. Tuesday morning her poop was back to normal pellet poop. By Tuesday afternoon, it was clumped back to look more like dog poop. Is it worms? Stress? She is eating fine, drinking better than ever, and acting normal. Babies are fine. I have a pelleted wormer and I have Ivomec. The pelleted wormer is safe for nursing, pregnant and milking does. I have used it before with worming success. So....any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tracy

Give her the Ivomec. It is recommended that you deworm just before or just after kidding, as their immunities drop from all the work of kidding and milk production.

We also give Ivomec right after the does kid. As for her poop, it is not unusual for one of my goats to have clumpier poop with some sort of change going on such as a feed change or kidding. I just watch and make sure it changes back to berries soon.

Thanks! Will try the Ivomec. Her poop is back to berries again this afternoon. So, probably just the stress but will worm in case.

Thanks,
Tracy

Don't use Ivomec around Aussie type dogs. It can be very dangerous for them.

WHy around Aussies?

Okay - I guess I don't want to sound too dumb here - but why just around Aussie dogs? If it is truly bad for them - won't it be bad to use aroung any kind of dog - or am I missing something?

goat poo

Goat poo-
Can also go from pellets to clumps and be very normal. It could be stress, weather, or something they ate. Use probios and have free choice minerals.
I also worm 2 wks before kidding and right after they kid.

I thought it was border collies. SOME dogs have a weird gene and if given the ivomec, will cause some damage or death? I can't remember. But not all have it. So avoid boder collies. Don' t know much about it really.

I wasn't even going to reply to the dog problem because it just seemed strange to post here but I will. I used to be a vet. assistant in and emergency vet hospital. Any type of Collie can have a reaction to Ivomec. I never heard it about Aussies but it's definately possible. Acutaly, it's possible for ANY dog to have a reaction to it but more so if they are Collies or aparently aussies. The reaction is bad enough it kills them. Some people have used it on there collies not knowing otherwise without a problem, but that is very rare. It has to do with their metabloism. Anyway, that's what I know about it.

Most of my goat breeding friends and I all have Aussie or border collie type dogs and we all use Ivomec on our goats. We don't use it on the dogs. They get dog wormer from the vet. The dogs have never gotten sick from being around the recently wormed goats.
