Question on pregnancy testing does

On the ADGA website .. on the management calender.. on the Winter section towards the bottom it states

Pregnancy check does early enough to be able to rebreed this season if open.

How do you check if your does are pregnant this early on? My nubians have mated.. My husband saw them. But I would like to be able to confirm that it took. How do you check if a doe is pregnant say if she has mated 1 month ago? I read a thread in the past here that a pregnancy test might work on a goat. Is that true?

Thanks,
Bluebutterfly

I'm not sure about the pregnancy test but your should start to see signs soon if they are pregnant. Not quite this early but maybe within the next month or two. They will start to gain weight and will start to bag up. If they aren't pregnant then they might come back into heat soon. So keep a eye out for them coming back into heat. If they don't then they might have settled.

you can send in some blood after 26 days you saw the buck breed the doe.
that is the only way to find out for sure.

I know someone who "swore" that human pregnancy tests would work on goats-she used them(so she said)..the board says "no"-we had bought some really cheap on E-bay,..i have yet too be able to "catch" a doe peeing-you aprouch them w a cup, while they are, and they run off!!HA!! (now tell me HOW she ever tested her does!)..anyway, usually you can go by, 21 days after bred-watch for signs of heat-even take her too the buck and see if she's interested..no repeat heats are a good indication of pregnancy, IMO goats settle pretty easily-Nearly my whole herd is due in January, all are at various stages of udder development-but all are "bellied down"-we do have one first freshning boer, that shows signs of heat every month, rubs all over the buck-trying too get his attention-he absolutely ignores her advances-gets aggrivated w/her and rams her!! We have NO idea about that one!! Just guessing that IF it was heat, the buck would be interested (?)..you will be able too see body changes in a few monthes-dairy does tend too bag up much earlier than "most" boers-(we had 1 boer, bag up huge 3 weeks b-4 she had trips)..

I hope it is ok to ask this question but on the pooch test.. will the actual triangle part get wrinkley or the area around the triangle?

The pooch test really doesn't seem to work on all of them -- or some of my confirmed via blood test does aren't bred ;-)

But in most does, the vulva lengthens out -- becomes more of a vertical line than the neat little tuck up it is in a dry doe. I don't notice that it is particularly "wrinkly" just that it lengthens out and isn't tucked up anymore. Don't know if that makes sense or not <G>

But for $15 you can send a sample in to BioTracking -- just sent one in myself yesterday.

It makes perfect sence. That is what I have been seeing. Just on the 2 that I am trying to get bred they both have more of a vertical line.. one is a bit wrinkley the other smooth. I think I will get that blood sample and send it in to be sure because I really want these 2 does bred asap.
Thanks everyone,
Bluebutterfly
