Just wanted to ask if this sounds allright.

O.K., as some of you may remember, my parents are thinking about keeping one of our boer bucklings from this year, but we had to figure out some sort of a breeding program that would include him. I think that I have worked it out, if you could please tell me what you think, and any comments/suggestions are VERY much welcomed.

O.K, this is the way that I THINK would work.

All the girls from this year are Yohaan' daughters, so ( as you guys said) We breed them to Cozmo, our red bukling.

All of the RED/PAINT/TWO TEATED doelings will be breed back to Cozmo to concentrate on the traits.

ALL of the doelings that are not RED/PAINT/TWO TEATED will be bred to Frankine, to increase on SIZE/TRADITIONAL coloring.

Then all of Frankie's daughters will be bred to Yohaan, to increase on SIZE/TRADITIONAL coloring.

Then all of Yohaan's daughters will be bred to Cozmo/Frankie/Himself, depending on traits.

That way it goes in a circle, and we won't be doing too much linebreeding, aside from Cozmo, and we will have a PRETTY good varity.

So what do you guys think? Once again, any comments/suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance, bye.

Sounds like you definately have a plan but I have a few questions. How many goats are in your herd? Are you culling as well as breeding? I am just now getting into Boers so don't know too much about the dominance of the color genes or the teat-gene. I am concentrating on type only at this point, not registering does that don't measure up conformation-wise, leaving color for later. None of mine have more than two teats. From my perpective, it seems that you are attempting to improve quite a few traits at once. I only bring this up for discussion, again, because I am new to Boers.

We have 6 breedable does right now, 3 doelings, 1 red buckling that is not related to ANY of our girls, 1 traditional buck that is the father to the 3 doelings(and the other traditional buck we MAY be keeping), then 1 traditional buckling that is the son of the other one, which is why his half sisters will be bred to the red buckling instead of to him or his father. We have not yet had to cull, and thank goodness, but it has already been istablshed that ANY baby htat looks unhealthy will NOT be bred and will be sold for meat, or if serious enough will be put down. Well I gotta go nopw, bye.
