Talking Goats and snow

We had 11 inches of snow yesterday and I spent over an hour shoveling a path from the goat shed to the heated water bowl so they wouldn't have to walk in the snow....do they walk in the path.....NO! I guess the snow doesn't bother them. Oh well, at least I had an excuse to play in the snow!

none of my does like to get thier feet wet, no matter the season. In the winter months, i take the pregg. does for a walk around the pen or around the yard often. when we get snow, they walk in my path behind me. I plow pathways around thier pasture so they get some excersize. In the summer months, they walk daintily around in the morning, so thier feet don't get too wet from the dew. They usually laze around untill either the snow melts or is plowed for them, or untill the dew evaporates. spoiled brats!! lol
The bucks, on the other hand, charge around in the snow, kicking up thier heels, and, of cource, calling to the ladies.

All our girls are currently wearing their ice beards and laying is a circle in the open snow sunning themselves. Except for when we have blowing snow they don't seem to give it a second thought and do their usual routine.

Yep, if we get enough snow to plow the driveway, the goats and mini donkeys get paths plowed too. Wimps!

My two Goats hate snow. They won't step foot out of the barn till most of the snow is melted. Right now they like to stay in the barn, lay around, eat hay, eat grain, drink water, and lay around yet some more. I try and give them some chances to come out and play but they won't.

My goats aren't all that crazy about snow either, but I make them go outside by feeding them on their outdoor feeders. The only time we put hay in their houses is if it's storming at feeding time. This helps them get their exercise in winter and also encourages them to potty outside their houses. When the snow gets deep, I shovel a path to their feeders and water.

We had about two inches of snow on the ground here and my goats didn't seem to mind it at all, as a matter of fact we have an abundance of acorns this year and they were pawing in the snow eating acorns.

Wow, 11 inches of snow! I always wondered what they do in snow, they act as if they will melt when it even looks like it's going to rain...
I bet they get a pretty, fluffy coat in the cold weather.

They are cute when they puff out aren't they? Mine look like Furbys.

And they all hate snow...look at me like it's my fault 18 inches fell in two days.

We have about 6 inches on the ground(SE Michigan). Our pygmy goats seem to enjoy the snow. The doe is more willing to step off the paths than the wether. I let them run around outiside the pen while I was shoveling our parking areas. We shoveled a path in their pen & around the yard. The goats and children play together in the snow.
