crack in hoof HELP

We just got an Alpine billy one day ago he needs a little TLC. We noticed he went down on his front knees alot. His hoofs seemed tender and we inspected them and found he has a crack. The previous owner had trimmed his hooves the day before we got him. He stated that he had trouble keeping his hooves trimmed well. Any suggestions on how to treat his cracked hoof? Also the cracked hoof is a little longer then the other and we do not want to trim him up more until he is healed up. I believe this is why it is longer in the first place. Can a hoof being longer cause more problems for him? Thanks!

where is the crack? is it in the sole or is it in the wall? a crack in the wall should not be too much of a problem, but a sole crack is probably not a crack at all but a cut. I would spray with iodine, and leave it genearlly alone.

hoof

I was told when they go down on their knees a lot it is a sign of CAE.
Not sure if that is true.
A small crack in the hoof wall will not hurt a thing.

He goes down on his knees because he is used to having feet that are tender and hard to walk with. Now that they are trimmed they feel funny to him, but he will get used to it.

The crack isn't a big deal. Trim his feet every two weeks, the crack will grow out and be trimmed off before long. Having untrimmed feet for prolonged periods of time can cause permanent damage to their legs, pasterns, and foot structures, so do try to keep up on this goat in particular.

The crack is on the wall, we removed dirt and hay then sprayed with blue lotion.
