Dumb Goat Question

My Billy Bred several of my does who were cycling at the same time today. He literally had them all "done" in a matter of minutes. Is this possible? Could he be shooting blanks after the first one. I saw semen coming from each doe, but what could the potency really be "doing it" that many times that fast?

I would leave them togeather for a few days just to be sure. But yes, they could be "done"

Our buck obvously did the same thing, 3 of our goats had babies within 2 days of each other, 2 of them on the SAME day! I would not be suprised if he has, although I agree, leave them in a little longer, it won't hurt nothing to be sure.

I just wanted to state that I don't think there is such a thing as a dumb question! We're all at different stages in homesteading here and we can all learn from each other. Best wishes!

We took our dairy does to be bred at nearby farm. The buck's owner, whose been at this for a very long time, had us keep them together in the pen until the buck bred our doe twice. Both times were pretty quick, but it seems to have works, as neither of them have come into heat again.

Now, we have two bucks here, that we picked up today, and we put one of does in with one of the bucks and left her in there for the afternoon. Although, he did breed her 3 times in the first 5 minutes. Each time was less than 20 seconds. Hope that helps.

If the buck was young it is very likely one of the does will recycle. Seminal fluid is copious, but sperm numbers in the young buck are limited. He can recover and keep on breeding and ejaculating, but it only works if he is ejaculating sperm. I would keep them together, most does in with a buck will recycle in 4 to 5 days, if the first breeding didn't take. Also just because a doe let a buck breed her may not mean she is ovulating, and it takes ovulation to make a baby. Seen alot in herdboss does they quite literally will do anything to keep the buck from the younger does, including letting him breed her when she is not in standing heat, or the opposite an older buck takes advantage of a young doe who is standing there very unaware of what is going to happen if she stands still! Thanks for the info. i figured as much but wanted to be sure. We do not keep bucks with does. We breed supervised only. We like to know who bred who and when.
