Very odd doe behavior

Has anyone seen this and is this a problem?

I just added my new boer doeling (born 2-13-05) to the 5 other spring doelings this morning. Well, the oldest one challenged the new girl "Allie" of course and Allie stood her ground, BUT, she's doing all the buck gestures, such as the front leg striking, and the buck noise and tongue motions. I promptly checked her behind good and there is nothing wierd that would make her an obvious hermaphrodyte (sp). What's going on? I've only had my goats a year and a half and never seen this before. I bought her from a friend, so she's not an auction dumpee or anything like that. I plan on breeding her in late January, but I'd like to return her if she's got an issue. Local vet is stupid on goats, so can't ask him.

Thanks, Jenny

My herd queen acts like this.....like she is surveying everyone's hormones and social standing...mine has had 6 babies so she is quite normal.

Incidently I also think goats can smell something wrong and will "deal " with it.
A friend gave me an orphaned goat...she was kept separate for one month when introduced to herd....my sweet girls beat the life right out of her at night...after being fine in pasture with new one all day. So keep your eyes open!

One of our doelings, 6 months old, Tina, is in heat and and has been mounting our 4 month old doeling because she is kept seperate from our buck, she HAS had the mucus that means that she is in heat though so I KNOW that she is perfectly normal, other than being half the size of her triplet sister.

It is my understanding that some does will exhibit buck type behavior when in heat, especially if there isn't a buck around. This is normal behavior. I've got the opposite problem, I've got a buck that will mount anything even my other buck. That doesn't go over real well with the other buck. He'll even do this when the does are present and reject him. I guess he is looking for love in all the wrong places!!!

My guess would be that she is in heat.

When a buck mounts another buck it is saying "I am more dominant than you!" Same with does.

My doe that is pregnant has been doing this with her mom for about 2 weeks now. Mounting, grunting, slapping her hoof on her, tounge wagging. Looks a little silly, I always tell her!

Rosie doesn't put up with such nonsense & promtly slams into her!

Good, thanks for letting me know Allie is most likely NOT a transexual! I warned my husband she did that incase he'd notice. I think it's funny as all get out when the bucks do that, but sure scared me when my new beautiful boer doe did that!

Thanks a lot! Jenny
