Wound is not Healing

One of my Nigerian dwarf wethers had a sore on his side about a month ago about the size of a nickle. It scabbed and he tore the scab off. Now it is about 1 inche wide and 2 inches long. I tried blue kote on it (he licked it off), put Animax on it (he licked it off) and basically just tried to keep it clean and dry so it would scab and heal. Problem is that the moron keeps licking it and tearing off the scab as soon as one forms. (gets itchy perhaps?) The sore is getting even larger due to the messing around he does to it. Sooo...Does anyone know where I can get one of those coats like they have for sheep when they go to show? I think if I were to bandage the guy up and then put a coat on him, it would have a chance to HEAL. Does anyone have a source for one?

Itchy

That is a sign of deer worm- I would worm with Ivemic for 3 days stright then agian in 10 days. See if that helps clear it up. I would continue with the blue coat also.. Love that stuff.

you also could go to your vet and get one of these dog collars. the one dogs get after surgery. maybe jeffers has them also.
don't know if that has to be a sign of deer worm though.

That was my thought as well, a collar that would NOT let him lick the stuff off. Sure hope that your little guy gets better, see ya.

True, a cone collar would not allow him to lick it off, but his pen mates could and he is very good at rubbing his flanks along anything. I still think the coat would be best, i just need to find a coat.

If you can't find the sheep coats, maybe you can use a large dog coat?
