Could it be boat? If so you should give them some baking soda. Hope she gets better, bye.

I ma not completly sure, but we have a goat that had a problem with it, and while he did still walk, he would lay around more often than he would walk. He would literally eat while he was laying down!

This is the time of year when the Menengial worm shows up. It will paralyze the hind legs. There are some very good threads on it in this forum - do a search. It is imperative to worm immediately with Ivermectin - my understanding is at least 5 days in a row. And Vitamin B12.

It is really hard to answer this question with so little information. How old is the doe? When did she last kid? What kind of feed do you feed her, how much and how often? Do you give them loose minerals and baking soda? When was she last wormed? and with what wormer? When was she last vaccinated and with what vaccine? Has she been tested for any diseases recently? What was the reason for the other doe's passing? Is this doe having the same exact symptoms? What kind of hay are you feeding and are you certain that there is no mold in this hay at all? Please answer these questions and we can help you better.

sick goat

the first thing you should do with any sick goats is give 3cc SQ of fortified b-COmplex. Give this a couple times a day or more. I like to give backing soda and probios to any off goat also.. You can treat for deer worm like another sugested. Is there a temp?

You can write me at neadow7@adelphia.net if you need more help=

Sorry So Little Information I Just Did Not Think. She Is 3 Yrs Old, SHE MAY BE PG. SHE WAS EXPOSED 2 MONTHS AGO. We Breed Once A Year, They Get Med In Moring, All Stock In Evening. We Have A Block Out And Some Soda. She Was Wormed 2 Months Ago With Safe Gurad. No Vaccines No Testing. The Other Goat We Did Not Look Into It Because Of Rita And My Mother-in-laws Death.....the Other Goat Would Not Eat And This One Will Eat Lying Down. Hay Is Not Given When Tey Are Loose On 20 Acers. Hope That This Is More Information. P.s. We Gave Her Pen G Yesterday And Vit B 12 She Is Still Down. Any Help Would Be Great. If Not We Will Have To Spend 75.00 On Vet.
Thanks A Lot

if you don't want to loose this doe you might have to spend the money for a vet. it is possible that the reason she is down is the same the other doe died of. it is still not enough information to make a diagnosis over the internet.
you never give penicillin without taking a temp. you never give it only once. there can be many reasons why a goat can't walk. christine mentioned vit. b deficiency. there is polio and listeriosis. back injuries from another goat ......
with so little i would get a vet.

Feeding an All Stock Feed. Is this sweet feed? You would be doing better to feed them Alfalfa pellets or even a meat goat feed. The molasses in a sweet feed really isn't necessary for goats and there was a study done on cattle that even said that having the molasses in feed caused the cows not to digest all of the feed and it is thought to be the same in goats because their digestive process is the same. So actually, you are spending money on feed that they are only getting 1/2 the nutrition from. If your goats are not producing milk or heavy bred Alfalfa pellets would do them just fine. They still need some hay to help their digestive process even if they have grass and browse. Is the 20 acres wooded? Make sure there isn't something poisonous out there that they are getting into. The mineral block probably doesn't have enough copper in it for goats. Goats need at least 1000 ppm copper in their minerals (sheep do not). If you wormed with Safe Guard they probably have worms. The worms are resistant to this wormer. Injectable 1 % Ivermectin given orally (by mouth) 2cc/100# body weight or Cydectin Cattle Pour On given orally (by mouth) 1cc/25# body weight. If you live close to cattle ranchers, dairy farmers or large goat herds maybe they have some of this wormer they would sell you by the dose. You can pick up some Red Cell at the feed store. This will help build their blood back up if they are full of worms. I would highly suggest taking some poop berries to the vet and having a fecal ran ASAP. Don't let the vet sell you that expensive iron supplement, just get the Red Cell. Give her 10 ccs orally every morning. Pick up some Probios and give that every morning and evening to keep her rumen working good. The Vitamin B Complex shot is good to do. Also make sure she is drinking plenty and is well hydrated. If she isn't drinking well and/or dehydrated you might need to get a bag of fluids from the vet and give Sub Q fluids under the skin for a few days. I would get these goats blood tested asap. If you want more info on how to do this yourself go to http://www.boergoats.com/clean/articleads.php?art=64. You can send your blood samples in to Pan American Vet Labs, 166 Brushy Creek Tr., Hutto, Texas 78634. Their web site is www.pavlab.com Email Bob Glass first and tell him what has happened to your does and ask him what he would suggest testing for bglass@pavlab.com There are some things that WILL pass from the raw goat milk to humans so testing your goats is extremely important. So......feed, hay, give them loose cattle minerals you can get at the feed store with at least 1000ppm copper, worm with a good wormer that will work, use a blood builder, vitamin b complex shot, probios for good rumen and get that blood work done and have a fecal check done as soon as you can. Since your doe is down, make sure she doesn't lay in one spot too long. You will need to turn her and massage her legs if you expect her to be able to get up and walk again. I hope it isn't too late to see what is going on with your girl. I would get to the bottom of this even if you lose this doe. You don't want there to be something that could affect more goats you bring onto your property. Once the doe is well get her vaccinated cd/t (feed store) and a Bo-Se shot (get from vet). Good luck with her.

Yep...put her in the back seat of your car and go on down the road to the vet..now !! Call ahead to see if they can see you or perhaps find the vet on his rounds on the road and stop them ! Good Luck...I hate to lose a friend.
