Banding older goats?

Ok..this is weird. I took my 2 puppy faces (bucklings) to the vet to be wethered today. (yeah, mine are pet goats and I can't do banding at birth and such) We had decided when they were born that it would be better to let them get into puberty before wethering themto help lessen the chances of urinary calculi. I do trust this vet, he did save my older male from dying from the stones earlier this year too.

Ok...my dilemma is that when I took them in today for what I thought would be surgery to remove the testes, he said that he would rather band them. Which he did. They are doing fine right now, btw. Is this ok, to band them at 3 and 4 months? Is there anything I should look out for? I swear I read somewhere in the posts that this wasn't a good thing. Any advice or experience? On the up side, it did cost me ALOT less!

It's fine -- you can band goats at any age. The only time I've had them surgically cut was when I had some truly huge bucklings and, well, they don't make bands that big.

Yep, banding at this age is fine.

We always give Tetanus Antitoxin SQ at banding or disbudding.

I'm glad the boys did well we spray with a little strong iodine every few days for good measure too.

Iodine is good. Antiseptic AND fly repellant. Make sure it's Iodine Wound Spray so it's buffered. Otherwise it will burn.

The doc did give them tetnus shots and an antibiotic shot. As for the iodine, I have a 10% solution. It doesn't say anything about being buffered but it does say for cuts and scrapes. Will that burn? I was gonna do it tonight if I get an answer.
