Taking on a rescue - 18 days later

For those of you who followed my rescue post of the little horse I brought home, here he is 2 1/2 weeks later. I love this guy! He curious, very people oriented and has a level head. Not much flusters him. In the past 18 days he's had free choice hay, small amounts of grain and loose minerals except for the first couple days when I was monitoring his feed intake. He has a good appetite and has regained energy and seems to have grown more winter coat.

Top pic is from today. Bottom was two days after he came home. He has a ways to go, but he's gaining....

Aww, what a skinny little guy! The weight gain is definitely noticeable but just keep at it - before you know it you'll see a huge change. Be prepared, though, that he may suddenly be spunky once he feels really good - that's ok though!

Good for you. I have rehabbed a couple of horses but not sure any were that thin to start - however, I have found it immensely rewarding. Take lots of pictures during this time because they change so quickly (thank goodness!) and soon it will be hard to believe he was ever that thin.

Wow you can really see the difference just looking at his rump/hip bones! Thanks on his behalf! I'm sure he will repay you with a ton of love and many rewarding moments!

Can definitely see an improvement, slow and steady is what he needs and it sounds like you're doing everything right. Good job!

What a great change you have made in him. And I agree- he's a little charmer.
