Any takers?
New Freedom, PA. The girl who rescued my potential horse-to-be also rescued this bred mini-pair, a stallion and his woman. These pics do not do them justice, they are GORGEOUS in real life. The mare is a little shy but the right person will form a bond with her; she has had quite a life change going from her home to the meat market and then to a new home. The stallion is about as unstallion-like as they come, sweet, well mannered and easy to handle. They are golden seal registered (whatever that means, lol) and the current owner was told they drive. Good home, serious inquiries only.

Mare, reported to be bred.

Stallion, mugging for the camera

Mare, displaying uncanny ability to stand on her tail during an earthquake.
Can't figure out how to turn her over...
Any how, I repeat they are gorgeous in person, registered golden seal (again, not sure that is the hoity toity registry, though) and the mare is reportedly bred to the stallion. Contact me and I will get you in touch with her, she needs to move them along so she can rescue some more horses.

Defintely needs a diet, quickly, even a dry lot for a bit.

Why would a meat buyer want a mini?

The sad part is that I really need another mini but all I can find are minis like this - stallions and "most likely bred" mares. Why don't people ever geld their mini stallions?
I guess because they are small people can manage them ungelded...but every stallion seems to come with a 2-for-1 deal -- a "most likely" bred mare. I need a pregnant mini mare like a hole in the head!

Get a quiet stallion and geld him, you will shortly have a very nice calm gelding, I'd think. At least he wouldn't be bred and pregnant!

Maybe. Or maybe not! I have an ex-broodmare mini, and an ex-broodmare TB, and one other mare...so any stallion is really out of the question, even if it was quiet or "you'd hardly know it was a stallion".
I am really looking for an older mini mare, or an older pony mare....but they seem impossible to find. Lots of pregnant minis, TONS of mini stallions, half of which "need an experienced handler" and "sometimes strong so not appropriate for children" (a.k.a. hasn't been handled in years and full of testosterone - woohoo! Who wouldn't want it??) :
Oh well, the search continues. But it is sad that there are so many unwanted minis -- so many seem to be unwanted because they are stallions or pregnant -- neither of which is accidental....

....you reeeeeally want these minis....you know you dooooo....
The problem I am having is this Gold Seal is not a recognized registry, so no one wants them. Kind of like mutts in the pound. Pretty sad.

They are cute. Wish I could take on more but with hay prices it's so hard for anyone right now. But those little guys don't eat much and they can be alot of fun.
I have a grade mini gelding the kids ride. He is bit on the larger size and quite a chunk. He can be a poop at times and obviously has been a kids pony. He is lazy and likes to stop and eat or pull the kids over to a patch of tasty grass when they are leading him. But he isn't nasty or crazy, just typical pony stuff. The kids love him but are starting to prefer the bigger welsh and shetland mares. I know they will outgrow him soon. So he will either be a pet or I may turn him into a driving pony. For someone who just wants a horse to brush and have around they are pretty nice. This little guy is super cheap to maintain compared to our big horses. Very "fuel effecient".

Hmm, you are close to me. If the stallion was a gelding and kid-safe broke to ride, my 5 year old would be all over him. He keeps telling people that I am going to get him a horse. I keep telling him we have too many horses already (4, but all too big or pushy for him) and can't afford another right now. I bet this little guy doesn't cost much to feed, he probably wouldn't eat much more than one of the goats. Sigh...

BRF, let me get in the paddock with him and play with him. Sadly we don't know a lot about his background, he was rescued with his lady. I am not sure as to his broke-to-ride status. I do know he is a kitten, but when dealing with kids we need way more assurance than that. They were reported to have been a driving team, but who knows?
I am going up there again today (I think) to bring the arab home, so I will play with him personally and see what he is like.

Thanks Becca! I think I should probably hope that he is not kid-safe. Hubs may kill me otherwise, lol. But if he was absolutely perfect, I think I might be able to talk him into it. Especially since I am getting the goat herd down from 8 to 3...
But the boy junk would have to go, lol!
My son is 5 and wants a pony so bad. I'd love to get him into 4-h and pony club. He is starting riding lessons soon too. Our current pony is a Fjord and turned out to be way too much pony for the kids. At only 13.2 (but stocky), he turned out to be a surprisingly good jousting horse for us though. The other three are all full size or more (2 are drafts) and not kid mounts. Well trained horses, but just not suitable for kids, ya know?
Congrats on your new girl, she sounds like a gem!!

As cute as he is, I wouldn't feel confident having a little boy up there, we don't know enough about his past. He would make a pretty pasture ornament! And he DOES handle like a pro on the ground.

the cost of transport alone would either buy me a super horse in this market or take funding for horses that are in real trouble. I know I dont have the funds to make the trip or I would have already been there.
they are sure cute and would go great with the goats..

Thanks Becca! I knew it was a super long shot, but figured it was worth asking Unfortunately, as cute an ornament as he'd make, we can't afford to have any animals here that don't have a job to do and Henry REALLY wants a pony he can ride and handle. I figure it may take a few years, but eventually the right one will turn up, probably when we are not looking and least expect it.

BRF, Delilah dropped into our laps out of the blue, and we are so glad we didn't rush our search, either. I had a few "maybes" that just didn't sit right, you know? Then bam, here she is.
