Is everyone in the Southeast okay?

I'm obviously okay and have power. I was just wondering how others from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee are doing. It was a wild, wild weather day.

PS - If some of you all in Alabama are looking for some of your papers, I believe they might be here in southeast TN, so the weatherman has heard.

I feel really fortunate when I look at the pictures of the Chattanooga area The pictures and the destruction is incomprehensible to me.

We were evidently close enough that we got stuff in my pasture and dry lot paddock from the debris cloud. There were checks and invoices from places in Henegar, AL (a little over an hour away) and Baileyton, AL, which is w-a-y over by Cullman, AL. That was one of the places on the news that got absolutely pummeled. That is like 4 1/2 hours away. My brother has a book of some sort on the roof of his house. There was insulation all over, siding, roofing material, wood from houses, and parts of mini-blinds. Yes, my horses were locked in the barn and now I am glad I decided to do that. One piece of wood was driven in the ground like an arrow.

Lesson from yesterday - we really need to look at finding a way to make someplace in this old farm house a little safer.

My immediate family are all ok. My Aunt and cousin in Tuscaloosa lost their homes, but are unharmed.

I am sorry to hear about the devistation there stony brook, glad all are safe!! the rain here was like pins and bullets, the wind took my breath away when I ran out to the barn to make sure everyone was in (turkeys mostly)!! alot of water dropped too, pasture will need some time to dry up.

I posted on another forum that I really struggled with what to do with the horses. There are lots of trees around us. Big trees. Some are big enough to fall on them no matter where they are if left out. They could also fall across the barn. I finally locked them in the barn because at least they could avoid falling debris that way. I also took my gun with me when I huddled in the pantry with my mom just in case a tree did come down and I had to do the unthinkable. I am so relieved that did not happen. I think I made the right decision though after I found a sheet of metal roofing in their dry lot and a fair amount of housing material, including pieces of splintered wood two feet long. I wouldn't want them getting hit with any of that.

There are five trees that I will be getting removed soon. I don't want to feel that way again. We just don't normally have anything near this bad here. I have been here 30 years and I think we had 10 trees down on one occasion from straight line winds.

I think she is somewhere around central GA, maybe??? They had some tornadoes down there too on ThHursday , but I don't think they were quite as bad as those that went through MS. AL, GA, & TN Wednesday. I could be wrong though.

Stonybrook- I always used to think the pasture was the safest place during that type of weather. I assumed since they could run, they could get away if something happened. In NC (I want to believe) there was an instance where bad weather struck and some horses died in the field.
Now I am not as confident in my choice as I was. I think i'll take it storm by storm from now on!
