Sounds like our neighbors. The Chickens get eaten up every year by predators including their own dogs, the Goats died of worms, the Beagle was re-homed because it couldn't be trained, so was the Golden Retriever pup, the Thoroughbred was never broken (after three years and thousands of $$$), the pasture and arena turned to a manure bay, and the Pony was given away because it was lonely. Last I heard they were interested in getting more goats....and so it begins. (sigh)

(Can't wait until their children grow up and have no interest in animals anymore, but they keep adopting more kids!) Sound like I have a grudge?

I'm not having much luck rehoming the test pilot and the last time I did try, he reported me to the child protection people

Oh yeah. I think I know that guy. He's the one that called and told me his pit-bull had just killed his 2 year old's pet chihuahua and he had to have another toy dog puppy for his baby today.

Up here we call those types "CHEWEES", pronounced cheweee with the long e's. Some others refer to them as rock eaters and they do make for some classic entertatinment. Look for them in the pages of "People of Walmart".

You know the worse part of that is that someone WILL sell him a dog, but at least it won't be one of yours or mine.

What's crazy to me is that there's no introspection whatsoever. No matter what - it's never THEIR fault the animal(s) don't work out. It's always the animals. I've heard so many excuses, I don't like talking to them much anymore.

"It was a pound puppy, and you know, they can NEVER be trained".
"It was a chicken, which are really stupid anyways, so that's just what happens"
..and my all time favorite:
"we originally got them for brush clearing and then found out that we'd have to get all this fencing and stuff".

(these are pretty much verbatim!)
Mind boggling.
I won't even go into the rationalizations they feed the kids for their bad behavior. On guard for adolescence on my block!
