Everyone is a horse trainer

My friend Larry told me this years ago and he is right. Everyone who comes into contact with a horse is training it. Even your dumb cousin from Philly.

Ever watch what happen when a dude sees a foal? He walks up to the fence, scratches it's nose, grabs ahold of the halter, the foal pulls back and escapes. Cousin dum-dum just began training your horse to be a halter puller.

Another scenario. Full grown horse, being halter broke, tied to a post. Owner approaches and the horse lays back his ears and snorts, and the owner jumps back. You have just taught this horse how to successfully intimidate people.

So remember, you are always training your horse. Weather it is good training, or bad training is up to you.

Yep, I call it untraining Same goes with all animals. When someone pulls up I tell my dogs to come and sit beside me. They are expected to do so until I tell them they can go. Often when one tries to get up and run to the visitors and I tell it no an dput it back and make it sit, the person says, oh, it's ok, she's not hurting anything. Well, that's not the point! It's not fair for what I say today to not be important, but for it to be important tomorrow. Confusing for animals- and children.

Yup, and evry interaction you have with the horse, no matter how short, is a "training" session.
