Talking FINALLY!!! Baby pics!

I got an older TB mare last winter who was supposed to be pregnant. Had breeding plans for this year for my girls and none of them panned out! I've been waiting for this foal to come for the last 2 months, don't know what on earth she was waiting for! This morning I went out, no baby (again)...five minutes later there he was! SO EXCITED!!![strongbad

I don't know how to upload images, but go to http://www.ballyhoofarm.weebly.com and click on the Rocinante Racing Stable link. He needs a barn name!

The mare was surrendered to me by a young lady who couldn't pay to feed her and was about to turn her over to rescue or sale. I gave her gas money. We've stayed In touch - her grandma's mare was bred to the same stallion (pasture bred) and foaled 8 weeks ago. The stallion (now gelded for lack of a place to keep a stud) belongs to a cousin or something.
At 3 days old they're already asking to buy the colt when he's weaned. I don't think they have the means to support him as they couldn't feed his mother; I also think they'll expect to buy him for practically nothing.
In all likelihood I will sell the foal, but I'd like to sell him at market value. I'm concerned they'll withhold the stud certificate so I can't register him. Am I under any obligation? Suggestions?
By the way he's ADORABLE - forgot how much fun babies could be!!

Offer them a stud fee to sign the papers, if they are broke they ought to be glad for a few $$ for basically nothing. Don't offer them a lot, but that might be enough to encourage them. Get that done asap, too.

I'd agree that selling them the foal would be problematic.

I've never dealt with QH registration before. Apparently you have to register before 8 mos? That seems really odd to me since babies change SO MUCH during their first year! I had a colt who was born light bay but turned black by 9 mos - his registry pics wouldn't have matched! lol Anyway I'm hoping that'll be my saving grace..."baby must be registered, might as well do it now, still haven't decided whether to sell or not...."
