Question Problem with placenta or after birth coming out

Thanks for the input on the foot rot. Now i have another problem with a Angus cow (first time heifer about 2 years old) that had a calf that did not make it. She had him during the night and i checked him over and found his navel was pulled out (a hole where it's suppose to be). I guess he got tangled in it and caused it. Was a nice average size Bull calf. It's been about 36 hours so far and she still has some stuff hanging out. I tried pulling on it with no success. Any advice Please.

If the heifer is up and about she will probably clean off on her on unassisted.

I don't have a lot of experience in this, but an Ayrshire of mine did that last year. I couldn't pull it out and was advised not to..so I had the vet out.

If you can catch her and milk her a little that can stimulate contractions.
Don't pull on it. When you do that you expose it to bacteria and it goes back into her if you are successful in snapping it. Give her some time. We wait a week. If she hasn't passed it in a week we have the vet out to deal with it..though we are dealing with it twice a day at each milking.

Almost any retained placenta will clean in about a week if you leave it alone. Stinks like heck this time of year, of course, but that goes away as soon as they drop it. I had an old cow (Holstein) retain one for about a week this past month. She finally let it go and it made milking MUCH nicer.
