Question Chiangus has foot rot i think

Any suggestions on treating what i think is foot rot. Between rear hoove
is really infected looking and swollen. What causes it? If that's what it is. Also she has just recently had a calf (8-7-05).

I have always had success treating hoof rot by liberally spraying the foot with hydrogen peroxide.

Footrot is an infection. Can be caused by standing in water, mud, shud. Might have had an abrasion or puncture wound that got infected.

I'd get her in a chute or stall and get her restrained. Lift the foot and clean it up real good. Squirt the infected area with Kopertox, really making sure to get it between the toes. I'd give her a couple doses of penicillin G about 2 days a apart. If she weighs 1200-1500 lbs., I'd give her 15-20 ccs. (You can't sell her for 30 days after treating her.)

If it isn't too much trouble to catch her up regularly, mix up a 10% copper sulfate solution in an old rubber boot and let her foot soak in that.

I realize that since she's a beef cow, this isn't easy. With our Holsteins, we can just lead them out to the tilt table and work on them there.
