How soon after giving birth will a cow go back into heat? thanks

Might be as soon as 3 weeks, might not cycle till the next interval, 6 weeks or so.

10 days after calving indicates a healthy uterus.

Just because they come back into heat does not mean they should be bred, however. Their bodies need a rest before rebreeding.

Not to steal the thread- but what is the optimal rest period after calving to start rebreeding? I have heard anything from 30 to 90 days.

I notice the bull following the cows around just a few days after their calves are born, and acting like they are in heat. But their calves are nearly always born at the same time every year, so they are actually breeding back at 3 months after the calf is born.
