Prostaglandin

Our cow doesn't come into heat. She's been like that for several months. She's in good condition and gets salt, minerals, hay, grain and a molasses mix every day. The vet has checked her and from feeling her ovaries stated that they have been non-functioning for quite awhile. He gave her a shot of prostaglandin and 2 or 3 days later she came into heat. But that was it. He said that the shot should have acted as a kick start for her ovaries to begin cycling again. I asked what could be the cause for their not getting started and he didn't know.
So has anyone any ideas?

Lack of energy in the diet is usually the big culprit. Depends how much grain she's getting, otherwise it could just be old age or genetics. Prostaglandin doesn't do a whole lot if the ovaries aren't ready.

I gave her another shot and 80 plus hours later had her AI'd. She didn't show any sign of heat but the tech said she was this time. Our cow used to come into heat regularly and was very obvious about it. Now her signs aren't there anymore which made me think she wasn't coming into heat anymore.
Thank you for your reply.
