Bald and pink? Sounds like lice, or something else. I would have someone look at that, and treat it. That is not normal as you know.
Now as far as pneumonia, one sign that is the most obvious and it clued us in, was off-feed. When an animal goes off feed something is wrong. We had 4 Jerseys come down with pnuemonia, there was no dull appearance at first, nasal discharge, they would not eat or drink. So the vet came, took their temps and they were all above normal, he listened and said they have pneumonia. If that calf is running around, acting lively, an animal sick with pneumonia would rather lay down and rest, their breathing capacity is limited. It's mouth open could be a respritory condition, or it is not used to it. I've seen calves run around and breathe heavy, I breathe heavy too, you get tired. BUT it might be as I said, respritory. But that balding needs to be treated, you don't want whatever it is, to spread.
