Well @ 4 months from birthing, it is hard to find the youngen. Generally I can feel them 3 months prior, sometimes 4, if the calf is in the right position. It usually is small, and this hard lump. You usually have to really push with your fist on her right side. Usually ill get kinda low, and push, bump of sorts to feel. It won't hurt it, I've done this to the herefords plenty of times. The cow might feel uncomfortable, so if she acts "stop it", wait a month.
