Those of you who do a.i.

I was wondering what you have for facilities. I was going to get a single cattle chute, then it occurred to me that if I were ever to get my cows synchronized, it would be a problem calling the a.i tech with one cow in the chute but making him stand around while I catch the other ones once the first one is done. Any thoughts?

This is for sale near me and I thought I could buy some gates to use a chutes so they I could have all of my cows standing side by side waiting.

The tech did our girl with just her collar tied to a post. She didn't move much at all.

Having done AI for a number of years, it does not take fancy facilities to work animals.

I have bred cows where we caught them one at a time in a headgate, have also had where 2 chutes were setup so that while breeding one animal another could be brought into the other chute.

Bred cows tied with a halter, once bred a cow in the middle of a pasture with nothing.

I have worked sync breeding programs from 2 or 3 up to about 100 head.

it will depend also on the temperament of your cows...mine are pretty calm, but need a chute and headgate for us to safely work with them....a holding area that is secure nearby is where the others wait their turn....then one by one they get encouraged into the chute and headgate....then on out to a grass lot nearby....to wait for the others.....we do other maintenance at the same time....tags if necessary and fly treatment .....a steady and calm atmosphere goes a long way to a successful project involving cows...
