Bloat?

Bloat? - Cattle

Bloat? - Cattle

Noticed this heifer looking alittle lopsided when they came in to eat this morning. I assume this is bloat? I've never had a problem with bloat before so unsure what to do. Called vet but he's out on a call and isn't sure when he could get here. It looks minor to me, she's acting normal. They are grazing fescue and what's left of my tritacle cover crop.

I left her pinned up. She already looks alittle better to me, just in the time it took to feed pigs, but maybe that's wishful thinking

Vet said to get 2 Qts mineral oil in her and give her some probiotics. Keep her off grain for a week.

Anyone with more experience with bloat able to till from the pics if it looks minor or looks worse?

I have a cow that looks that way ...often....but unless she acts like she is really uncomfortable, I wouldn't worry...make sure there is lots of clean water available....and minerals in the pen....hi mag minerals are good at this time of year....

She does. I'm going to leave her penned up for a day or two so I can watch her and get her full of some good dry hay but she looks normal this morning

Add a couple boxes of baking soda to your mineral feeder every time you put out mineral , that does look like a minor case of bloat , sometimes does not take long to go to a major case and a dead cow , I lost one last year to oak leaves they had plenty of feed but she gorged on leaves . May want to get a trocar and keep in your vet box better than just sticking them with a knife if you have to save a bloater and your vet will like you better
FarmerDavid and boerboy like this.
