How long before milking her

Got a jersey cow that just gave birth. How long do you wait before you milk her? She has been milked before.

Milk her now. Some don't milk out completely for a few days in hopes of preventing
hypocalcemia. Keep calcium gluconate on hand, especially with a jersey.

You can store milk for the calf or freeze for bottle calf later.

I usually milk out a little right after the calf is born. Just enough to get a bottle of colostrum in case I need it and to relieve some pressure. I make sure the calf is eating within an hour/two after birth, if not I bottle the colostrum into it. Twelve hours later I start milking the cow twice a day until the calf is taking most of it, then I drop to once a day.

I usually let the calf nurse for the first twelve hours and them milk her out half way. Then twelve hours later half way. After that, I start milking her totally out twice a day and within a few days she should be into her milk good. Some dairy cattle take a few days for the milk to come in after the colostrum due to edema. Just make sure you and/or the calf are using all the teats so she don't dry one or two up or develop mastitis.
