Watery eyes/"growly" breathing

Hi Helpers,
We have 4 10 month old lowine heifers that we bought a week ago. All four of them have weepy eyes (7 out of 8 eyes) and a couple of them sound a little like they're hocking a loogie when they breath in. The breathing thing seems pretty mild, but I thought I'd include it. We don't have much experience with cattle and it's possible we're being paranoid, so I thought I'd ask here before pestering a vet and spending unnecessary money. More info:

They are all eating and drinking well
They are about 10 months old.
They are active (for bovine anyway)
They're appropriately fat (I may start using that term to describe myself)
We can't see the whites of their eyes to see if there's any pink eye
It's 35 degrees and windy today

I should add that the eyes were not doing that when we first got them home. They've been watering for 2 or 3 days.
