I cannot recommend the type of cold season grass but I can some suggestions on methods. I would not disturb the ground any more than necessary, no plowing. If there is any overwintering ground cover I would suggest cutting it as closely to the ground as possible and then taking a N0-Till drill and planting once the ground temps get in the mid to high 40 F range. I would also do a soil sampling and get the nutrients in position ASAP.

I will second agmans advice. In Minnesota you could still have time to frost seed if you can't find a drill. Your local nrcs office may rent a drill

What type of grass would you recommend or clover ? Like I said everything is native prairie seed but it doesn't get going until we get some heat and it quits early in fall looking to get something that will green up sooner and later into fall

Orchard grass timothy or fescue are all cool season but I have no idea what would work well in Minnesota . Check what other local farmers are growing or what's growing in the side ditches along the county roads no need to fight to grow something than just ain't natural .
