Leasing Your Bull

What are standard rates for leasing out your bull?

My neighbor leases our his pasture, and that person is interested in using my bull to cover his herd this year.

We will probably work out some kind of trade, but I'd like to have an idea of what the value is. Our bull is a registered, Fullblooded Lowline Angus. He will bring about 20 head to my neighbor's pasture.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Written contract a must. I get $400 month plus $1/lb weight loss. Bull gets weighed when it leaves and when it comes back. I don't discount if he comes back fat. Renting farmer pays for treatment of injury or disease that occurs on his premises. Pre-arranged price for buyout in case of death or disease that requires culling. Leasing farmer pays for trich test at return, and pays out purchase price agreement if it is positive. If bull can enter the food chain but needs to be culled, renting farmer pays difference of pre-arranged buyout amount minus cull value received at sale barn.

Written contract a must. 50$ a head and he comes back in the same condition he left in or better. With a health certificate. They are responsible for transport both ways. And a price written in contract if he dies in their care.

I leased my Brangus bull out to a neighbor. He agreed to pay for upcoming shots/wormer, had my bull branded (I had him ear tagged, neighbor agreed to create and brand for me as I hadn't don't that yet), he pays for all feed, I set a round bale every couple of weeks out of my own supply. I get one heifer calf when all are on the ground, and my bull stays to re-breed his herd. Each successful crop, I get a calf. It's a good handshake deal, we have both held up our end and have witnesses.

I guess I still believe in a handshake in some situations, and this is one of those.
