Amount of Milk?

We are feeding a full bottle (4qt) to our 2 week old Jersey calf as the dairy we got him from suggested. After reading some other post on here it sounds like too much. He has kind of loose stools but not what I would call runny. Should we keep up with that amount or back him down to be safe. He is acting great! Have just read all the horror stories and don't want to be causing issues. Thanks!

2 gallons a day seems a bit much. We feed Holsteins a gallon and a half when they're up and going.

It's not the amount...a gallon a day is about right. But the grocery store milk isn't good enough for them. It's been pasturized and homogenized and generally doesn't have enough fat. I'd switch them to the milk replacer - no soy.

If it is full fat milk as apposed to 2% they will be fine. Are you offering calf starter also?

Wouldn't worry about the hay. keep fresh water and grain in front of the calf all the time. And keep on with your whole milk.

Whole milk is fine from the store. Add a little fat by adding a table spoon of corn oil or soy oil to his bottle or grain.
