That is a tradition in that region. Looks like a Tarentaise calf, that is their "home" region. Surprised the big bronze cow bell isn't in the photo, too.

I wonder if she can bring it home. I looked into cattle from the UK, and it wasn't possible to import them into the states. France isn't all that far from Britain.
