Little people and little animals need frequent rests. I have seen them jump with a start and at other times I have had to yell at cows and calves that were flat out asleep looking like they were dead and bloated. I laugh when I see baby chicks in the tank at TSC wake up and run a few inches only to collapse in total exhaustion again.

I don't know if they dream but if they did, it would a milk dream, new calf arrivals or about lush pastures in the spring, fresh caught hay in season and sweet new extra protein blocks during the holidays.

Congrats on your start...with your first post. Have fun.

Why wouldn't they? We've probably all observed our dogs having dreams, but since we don't live in such close proximity to cattle it just doesn't get noticed.

Apparently they snore, too! DS's corral is close to his garage/driveway, he said when he was leaving for work the other morning, he heard snoring coming from the corral.

Are they overweight or were they drinking the night before?

Most of my calves dream. They're funny to watch when they do it, tongues lolling about, eyes flickering, sometimes half-open. They twitch their legs and ears, usually flat-out on the ground. Yes, lots of them snore. They seem to stop doing that by about four or five months, but little calves can be quite noisy. The first time I heard it, I had to follow the noise to work out what on earth it was!
