Stock Trailer and Transportation between states

I’d tried to search but not having any luck. So novice question coming.

My wife and I just bought our first bull. He’s in Texas and I need to get him to Arkansas. I’m getting two different answers to my question.

-Should I tie him up while on the ride back to Arkansas or not? Some say tie him to the front of the trailer with a slip knot and others say don’t worry about it.

- It will be a 5 to 6 hour ride, anything special I need to give him for the journey? Should I stop ever couple of hours and let him drink some water?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do not tie him if he falls he will go down and struggle to get up because his head is tied . Just drive he will be fine for 5-6 hours legally you may need vetpapers on him to cross the state line

I wouldn't tie him. Have bedding in the trailer so it doesn't get slick and slimy. I wouldn't try to feed/water him in the trailer, just have hay and water waiting at the other end and it will help him feel at home that much quicker. 6 hours without water in cool weather won't hurt him a bit. Some cattle only water once or twice a day anyway if their feeding ground is far from the water source.

Thanks y'all.

kycrawler:
The vet in Texas is checking on what tests are needed to bring him to Arkansas. Then I read online tonight, that I'll need to ask for a permit from Arkansas Livestock Poultry Commission before I can go get him.

Get in touch with the destination state (Arkansas) state vet's office (link below); they will be able to tell you about any testing required to bring the bull there (your vet's office should be able to do this also in addition to getting the permit number). Test results and the permit number will go on the health papers that accompany the animal.

I agree -- leave him loose in the trailer.
