Jersey Butter Yield

How much butter could I reasonably expect to get from one gallon of jersey milk? I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate, on average over a lactation. Thanks!

Partly depends on genetics and feed. You will need to skim the cream from a couple of gallons to get maybe one stick or maybe a little more. I never measured it. Would leave the milk in fridge undisturbed for two days and skim off cream then do the quart jar shaking method to separate. Delicious. I also fed dairy grain and the cows had free choice pasture or grass hay depending on season (wouldn't milk during winter).

The cream from 1 gallon of Jersey milk won't give you much butter. You have to skim the cream off the milk to make butter. I milk Jersey's and usually get in the neighborhood of 1 pound of butter for every 1/2 gallon of cream. It's been awhile since I made butter but I think I skim about three gallons of milk to get the 1/2 gallon of cream. Let the milk sit for at least three days or until you get a very distinct creamline on top before you skim.
