Cant find it?

I have been looking on here for this info because I am sure it has already been said. What is the figure folks use for in and out? Like, what is average hay in and beef out? Say if you only feed hay (no pasture or grain). What is time frame for harvest too? Different in those things when you have a beef calf and a dairy calf. Trying to see what makes the most since for my family. Thanks!

you are lookin at 30 months. but i wouldnt keep my hopes up for good beef. you wont have any marbling with no pasture or grain. maybe if you had a place to buy some silage or balage. but that is hard to feed with one or two head. are you against corn too?

No, I am not against anything.. haha. I just want good beef and was hoping to sell a couple extras to pay for ours. I just wanted worse case if we had to feed all hay. 30 months for dairy calf? What about beef calf? Thanks

feeding just hay some breeds may be slaughter weight at 24 months, but they would never be considered "finished" by most standards.

With no pasture I would feed nothing but whole shell corn and tend-r-leen pellets.
They finish quicker and make some awesome beef. Back when you could get a ton of corn for 100 bucks we finished 2 steers on the stuff, ate one and shipped one.
If I can get a calf and not sell all of my corn one of these years I would not hesitate to do one (or two) again.
According to the website you can take them from wean to finish with less than 100 bushel of corn and 13 bags of their stuff.

We have 7 tillable acres on our 10 acre property but only 1 acre I am willing to give up right now. We just planted the other 6 in alfalfa last year and should get cuts this year. If you have good hay you cant grow up a steer on that and no pasture?

no would be the short answer.
You can grow an animal but it will be slow as alfalfa hay does not have the energy needed for gaining much over 1.5 pounds a day. Your animal will not finish well since the energy is not there for it.

Ok, sounds like I better get some seeds ordered and be ready to get pasture going this spring. Thanks!
