A sad day on the farm

Monday was a sad day on the farm. We lost our fold queen. Clemintine was 14 in October and now she is gone. She was an awesome mom and grandmother to many of our babies. She watched over the babies when the moms were off doing their own thing. I will miss her.

The first one was a couple of years ago when she had a heifer and the last one was May of this year when she gave us a silver bull

We had to put our matriarch down arthritis was getting too bad. It was hard for her to get up 2 or 3 tries when it got cold she limped. But when she walked up everybody moved out of her way. She was a beautiful Black highland. We have 2 that are 14 now. and neither one wanted the job it went to the only other black cow. But they don't give her the respect like the old one. She has to push sometimes to get her way. Clemintine was a beautiful silver cow.

Sorry for your loss. She really was a beautiful cow. Looks like she threw beautiful calves as well. Hopefully you have her daughters still in your herd? Rest peacefully Clementine, it's doubly hard to lose the great ones.

Sorry for your loss. Looks like she was a good producer, raised one last calf before she went.

Rocktown Gal,
Can I ask in total ignorance if she was a Highland? I've never seen that breed before. Total striking!

Yes, everyone respected Clemintine and moved out of her way. When they didn't she threw those horns around...and they got the message fast. She did limp that last couple of days...and it was cold here...we had snow the day before Thanksgiving. I'm not sure who will take her place...but will probably be Maggie.

I'm sorry for your loss. We had a Longhorn cow, bought off the King ranch. We named her Blizzard, that is what she looked like. She lived to old age (I forgot, we have many ,but Dh knows I'm sure). She was the boss over every one, and had the longest horns, knew exactly where the tip of them was too.Never allowed anyone to touch her. I covered and pet her for the first time as we waited for the end. We let all of our old girls stay thru their final days.
