Is this normal

I had one of my cows who I thought was in heat but all the bull and her did was what seemed to me was see who was more dominant. They kept pushing head to head and I was afraid she was going to get hurt. This went on for a good 20 minutes before I could get them separated. Is this normal forplay??

It was for us when we put a young bull with an old cow. She would not let him mount her till he could best her. Then after he put her on her front knee's everything was fine. It took him three months of trying off and on.

No this was the first time them being together. She kept mounting my other cow but as soon as she was mixed in with the Bulls it was like she needed to show who was boss. She is the oldest and has taken the lead roll of being in charge. I am thinking of putting just her and one of the Bulls alone together. When they were first put together the Bulls (2, father and son) followed her every where she went for about 1/2 day but then something happened and all hell broke out. I just want to know if this is something that will happen again if I turn her out with him again or what?

It sounds like a normal working out the heirarchy thing to me. An older, more experienced bull would have whipped her into shape in a short time, but it sounds like he is a younger bull and she has simply challenged his right to be in the herd. They will get it sorted out.

A cow is in heat for 3 days. It is only for a short time in the third day that she is in "standing" heat. That is when she will stand to be mounted. It's perfectly normal that she plays "hard to get" the rest of the time. She may try to mount him, but she won't let him mount her until the right time.
