Feeding a Jersey with no pasture?

I live on 2 acres of woods and have had goats. Goats are browsers so they prefer the trees and bushes over grass, but I'm looking to get my first Jersey calf soon. My question is how much hay will the cow need to replace pasture? and will I need to feed it grain?

If you buy a 1000# Jersey it will need 30# of hay per day factoring in waste. 25# must end up in the gut to maintain body weight and health. If the animal is lactating then a grain supplement would be a wise choice during this period. A heavy square bale will last two days under ideal feeding conditions....Topside
